Care Meeting today with social worker and nurse manager. Discussed history, current status of situation, plan to move forward with PT or no PT.
Created bulletin board for James and border for Etta’s 2nd board.
Friday 8/20/10
Hailey and I visited before going to the water park. Etta was tickled to see us both wearing bathing suites under our swim cover dresses. Almost as though she remembered her days of running around and playing.
Saturday 8/21/10
Hailey and I took Mom, Dad, and Kristin to visit this afternoon. James recognized dad and greeted him by name. He asked the same questions as before- living in same house, workday hours, what kind of car do you have, etc. Towards the end of the visit, James stripped down to his diaper- didn’t phase me at all but surprised mom and dad a bit. I knew his *behavior* just meant he was warm and so why not strip down? However, he is against turning his a/c unit on- its like he is paying the bill or something. I found him a lighter shirt and some running shorts and he was happy to allow me to dress him.
Etta talked about how she thinks she would probably not marry again if something happened to James. From that topic, she brought up what should happen when she dies. She said she wants to be cremated and doesn’t need a service since everyone is mostly dead already anyway. She then looked at mom and told her she was no spring chick either and would soon be in the same boat, if not already. Funny.
Etta asked for her reunion book today. I told her I was on it and that I had already asked Vivian for a new copy. I hope it comes soon as she really wants it and misses looking through it.
Missing today- her hand mirror, plush black slipper shoes from Vivian, red lipstick, and her pink/white gown STILL. Very frustrating. I know the other residents don’t know any better but I would think that when the CNA’s are cleaning and changing linens, they would see these items that are clearly marked ETTA JENNINGS. I am hoping to have some time this week to look for these things when visiting. I bought glue dots to secure her other decorations so they cant be so easily taken. Also storing her shoes in the bottom drawer as I cannot afford to replace – it’s tough enough just buying all their personal needs.
We took bunches of pictures today- got some great shots of Etta and James…
Sunday 8/22/10
Visited with Mike, Josh, and Hailey after church today.
Etta was happy to see mike as she said she is “always up for seeing a good looking man!”
She then told me that everyone tells her that they know me. I think this is a combo of the nurses who I have gotten to know and those from church that visit her. She said they always have nothing but wonderful things to say about me. She then took a pause and said, “Well, I guess they wouldn’t say anything bad about you even if there was…they know better than that because I wouldn’t have it.”
Etta said she went to the hospital today- though I know she didn’t. She said not to be worried. She again, like every day, referenced how she and James come in the morning, in time for breakfast and go home after dinner. She said she would leave but Preston has her car and he is out working. Per our daily routine, she has me stand in front of her to let her see my outfit…then like clockwork….a few seconds pass and she asks me to turn around. I am then prompted to sit down so I can show her my shoes followed by her attempts to try them on…despite the fact I am a 6 and she is an 8 plus has thick slipper socks on. She loves to see what jewelry I am wearing too…
Our visit was mostly in the visiting foyer area down the hall from their room…James came out several times to see what we were doing and if we had anything to eat…he would refer to Etta as honey and me as sweetie pie before retreating back to his room. This happened several times.
James was pretty social today…would shake Mike’s hand upon entering the room…smile…and waving lots…He seemed bright eyed, happy, and content today….
I tied back their divider curtains with a long wired plush rose around each curtain- this was early this week. James hasn’t messed with them and they remain tied back keeping the room more cheerful and open. He also had the blinds drawn open allowing the sunlight inside…a first time for this.
