A quick update on things....
I returned to court, for the 6th time, last week. This was the preliminary hearing for my uncle. Once again I had to face him and testify against him, essentially. I had to convince the judge that my grandparents suffered serious medical consequences from the neglect. The fact of the matter is that they did. My grandfather was in and out of consciousness. His blood pressure was dangerously high at 197/100. He was severly dehydrated and malnourished. He had multiple dermatological issues as well. The effects of living amidst the vast amount of black mold is still to be determined. My grandmother was found with an abundance of aspirin in her system, uncontolled hypertension, unable to walk, malnourished, dehydrated, and also suffering from multiple dermatological ailments. Even though I have looked at the photos over and over again, the graphic images still cause me to cringe.
I try to keep my testimony to the black and white matters...photographs, bank statements, etc. It is really hard. Somehow, each time, I manage to squeeze in at least one redeeming statement. I hope my uncle hears that and can eventually understand my position. After testifying and being cross examind, twice, then listening to the investigators testimony, the judge ordered the case out of Domestic relations court and into Circuit court. This is the difference between misdameanor crimes and criminal crimes or felonies. The grand jury convenes in November at which time a trial will be set. Likely will take place in January. I pray it is after the holidays....My uncle remains incarcerated on no bond until his trial.
