James was born in Hillsville on January 22, 1923 to Chester Arthur Jennings and Minnie Inez Gray. After two and a half years of service in the United States Army, James owned and operated several businesses to include Oak Grove Launder Center and Globe Driving School. He was a member of the Forest Hill Presbyterian Church in Richmond.
James was preceded in death by a brother, John Jennings, and three sisters, Priscilla Baker, Aster Lanter and Mary Sthreshley. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Etta Edna Jennings; two sons, Morgan Jennings and his wife, Kathy, and Preston Jennings; his brother, Roger Jennings and his wife, Glenda; his sister, Vivian Frazier and her husband, Rudy; three grandchildren, Stephen Jennings and his wife, Janice, Jeannie Jennings Beidler and her husband, Michael, and Kristin Jennings; four great-grandchildren, Joshua Beidler, Hailey Beidler, Ava Jennings and Luke Jennings; and numerous nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
With gratitude to the numerous loved ones who have been so kind and supportive during these past four months. A graveside service in Hollywood Baptist Church Cemetery in Appomattox, will take place on Thursday December 2, 2010 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Kevin Britton officiating.
