Monday 8/9/10
Visited with Etta and James after lunch today for about an hour before meeting with Randy to complete Etta’s admissions paperwork. The nurses all seem to getting along well with them both…though James is purely interested in eating, eating, and eating some more. As soon as I enter the room, he says, “You gonna get me a little something to eat…right now…I’m gonna wait here for you to get back.” He says it with such a soft smile and innocent expression on his face. It’s hard to believe he was once anything but this way…
Tuesday 8/10/10
Didn’t get to visit today…bombarded with preparations for the court hearing tomorrow. Teleconferenced with attorney from 3:45p to 4:15p. Talked to Amelia about the yard. Contacted the Inspector, Randy Masters, about the vehicles and the house.
Wednesday 8/11/10
Went to court today regarding the protective order. Julie (Grant) met me there- so grateful for her presence there today. Preston, apart from being in a bright orange striped jail jumpsuit, looked better than when I last saw him. His hair was clean and he looked so much healthier. His eyes were wide and he looked alert. Not jittery as he was before from drugs and alcohol. He humbly accepted the terms of the order and didn’t seem defensive or resentful at all.
After court, I met with the medical director at the Laurels to discuss the competency assessment for court. We also discussed, at length, the medical issues with James and Etta. Dr. Evans said Etta was “healthy as a horse” apart from age related arthritis and the Alzheimer’s-Dementia. The same was true of James. He does have elevated Billy-Ruben levels, but this apparently has no impact on his health. James has gained 4 pounds this week!!!
I played with Etta’s hair today and she seemed to enjoy it. Brought photos for their story board in the hall. Etta’s bed was turned to the side making the run much more spacious and easy to maneuver the wheelchair around and about. She loved my outfit today- she is always so complementary. At one point, she even had me stand in front of her and walk back and forth so she could totally check me out. CUTE! She loved my heels and insisted that she put them on while seated in the wheelchair.
Also, when Etta was talking to one of the CNA’s, she asked, “What do you weigh?” The nurse responded, “Why? Do you think I am fat?” Etta then said, “Well, I think we could all stand to lose a little weight.” OH ETTA! Fortunately, the lady agreed and seemed unaffected by Etta’s brutal honesty.
