I went to my grandparents yesterday with law enforcement to get a few items from their home before it is condemned early next week. Their entire lives together fit into just 3 storage bins. That was all the remained intact and able to be saved.
Visited both yesterday. James recognizes no one and remains confined to his bed. Etta was beautiful and gracious during our visit though somewhat confused. Her dementia is not as severe as James as she does have moments of clarity. Brought her a new dress and makeup.
I return to Richmond tomorrow to visit them both and bring them clothes. Monday, I will spend the day meeting with the case managers and Medicaid to complete their rush applications and narrow down options for nursing homes.
I've got to be real honest with you, I have some areas I could use some help with namely childcare/play dates for the kids on Monday while Mike is at work. This will likely be the case on Wednesday too. If you are free, I am grateful!!!
SUNDAY, MONDAY 8/1 & 8/2
Etta and James continue to do well and are well liked by the nurses and staff. My parents and sister met me at the hospital to see both of them. James was asleep when we arrived. Etta was awake and thrilled by the site of her family all entering the room!
Back at the hospital Monday morning to complete Medicaid applications on behalf of my grandparents and the necessary accompanying documentation. Stephen met me for lunch and we then spent time with both of them. As has been the case with the rest of the family, James did not recognize Stephen. Etta went from acknowledging him, to then asking who I brought, to saying we made a nice couple (Stephen thought, “EEEWWW, that ‘s my sister!”)
